Winter Athletic Registration Q & A
Will there even be a season this winter?
This is a fluid situation and one that AASD is monitoring closely. There are many factors that will determine if we start on time or delay the start of the season. When we are able to play, the schedule will be modified slightly and there will be many restrictions in place for the purpose of keeping students safe.

Am I required to register for West athletics online?
Yes, this is the only way we are taking registration for seasonal sports.

Is there any “paper” that needs to be turned in as part of the registration process?
Yes and No. The pre-participation physical form must be completed and signed by a medical practitioner, if an update is needed. This form can either be uploaded when you register online or you can bring a hard copy to Mrs. Andrews in the Business Office.

What does a complete registration mean?
Having completed the entire online paperless registration documents and assuring that your updated physical exam document (hard copy or email) is in Mrs. Andrews' hands before you can try out.
What if I can't get an updated physical exam on time?
Students are required to have an updated physical if it has been two years since their last exam. It is necessary the school have a current physical examination on file for every athlete before the athlete is allowed to start practice. This physical examination must bear the signature or signature stamp of a physician, or the stamp of the clinic the physician is associated with or the signature of a Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP).

A physical examination taken April 1 and thereafter is valid for the following two school years; a physical examination taken before April 1 is valid only for the remainder of that school year and following school year. (WIAA Senior Handbook 2020-21 RE – Art. VII)

If they are having trouble getting in due to scheduling with COVID reasons, then the extension form may be used to bridge the gap – but they must attempt to get in as soon as possible.

Students who have never submitted a physical exam (freshmen or first-time participants) must have a physical and may not use the extension form.

What is the first day of tryouts for each sport?
November 16 - Girls Basketball, Boys & Girls Hockey
November 23 - Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Boys Swim/Diving
Cheer/Dance - We do not have a start date at this time.

What about those who want to play hockey for Appleton United or the Fox City Stars?
As of November 4, AASD has not determined if the winter sport season will begin as scheduled on November 16. When the AASD moves forward with the winter season, there will be no barriers for AASD students joining their hockey teams November 16.

I have specific questions about my sports, who should I talk to?
You should contact the appropriate winter coach directly. Find all of their contact info here
