Alt Fall Athletics Registration

Alternate fall sports registration is closed.

Online registration is now open for Appleton West alternate fall sports. Any 9th-12th grade student planning to tryout for an alternate fall sport must be completely registered before the first day of tryouts.

Beginning on January 26 2021 you will be able to register your student for WHS alternate fall athletics by clicking the link below. Check out this short, informational video to learn more about alternate fall sports registration.

If you do not see a survey (registration) link in your Portal lnbox, please contact the Helpdesk via email at helpdesk@aasd.k12.wi.us. Please be sure to provide your name and the name of your student(s) to accelerate the process.
Alternate Fall Athletic Registration Q & A
Am I required to register for West athletics online?
Yes, this is the only way we are taking registration for seasonal sports.

Is there any “paper” that needs to be turned in as part of the registration process?
Yes and No. The pre-participation physical form must be completed and signed by a medical practitioner, if an update is needed. This form can either be uploaded when you register online or you can bring a hard copy to Mrs. Andrews in the Business Office.

What does a complete registration mean?
Having completed the entire online paperless registration documents and assuring that your updated physical exam document (hard copy or email) is in Mrs. Andrews' hands before you can try out.

What if I can't get an updated physical exam on time?
Students are required to have an updated physical if it has been two years since their last exam. It is necessary the school have a current physical examination on file for every athlete before the athlete is allowed to start practice. This physical examination must bear the signature or signature stamp of a physician, or the stamp of the clinic the physician is associated with or the signature of a Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP).

A physical examination taken April 1 and thereafter is valid for the following two school years; a physical examination taken before April 1 is valid only for the remainder of that school year and following school year. (WIAA Senior Handbook 2020-21 RE – Art. VII)

Can I participate in both my fall and spring sport seasons at the same time?

We will look for opportunities to make this happen when possible. Coaches will communicate as we identify which students may be in an overlap situation, and we will in good faith try to create situations for students to at least practice with their spring sport. The ability to participate in a spring game while a fall season is still going on is something we will try to make happen, as well.

I am participating in an Alternate Fall Sport, however, my spring sport is having contact days and open gyms too. Can I attend the spring sport activity during my Alt Fall season?

The simple answer is yes. However, there are things to consider. All Appleton West coaches have been trained on the expectations on how to enforce Covid mitigation strategies. The daily screening, entry at just door 47, wearing masks appropriately and social distancing when possible are all parts of the strategies.

Even on our best day, we have had student-athletes and coaches who have tested positive for Covid. What this means is a positive case in one student-athlete has shut down an entire program for at least 14 days. That is the risk when you are participating in more than one activity at a time. You or someone else could easily shut down two programs. It has already happened three times this winter. The standard AASD uses when contact tracing Covid 19 cases is physical contact and proximity of less than 6' for more than 10 minutes.

Can I quit my Alternate Fall season when the spring season starts?

No, we prefer you don’t. Finish what you start. Your coaches are planning to try and make it work for you to do both. Some sports may be easier to do this than others (XC to Track, Girls Golf to softball, etc).

I would  like to finish my alternate fall season before I start practicing with my spring team. Will my spring coach not be ok with this?

Students will not be “punished” for finishing their fall season before beginning spring. West coaches have been discussing this for months. However, more importantly, if you are not registered for your spring sport by the predetermined deadline, it is likely you will not be able to participate in the spring season. Just be sure to register when the time comes.
