Future Planning Conference Program

As part of the AASD Comprehensive School Counseling Program, the West High School counselors will be holding Future Planning Conferences with each sophomore this following school year. A Future Planning Conference is a meeting held with the school counselor, student, and parent(s)/guardian(s).

This is not a traditional parent-teacher conference! Instead, this is an exciting opportunity to focus on your student's current talents, interests and aptitudes, educational and career development, and to obtain information to begin planning for the future!

You and your student will be assigned an appointment date and time. The information will be included in the registration packet that you will receive in the mail. An e-mail reminder notice will also be sent approximately 1 week prior to your scheduled meeting.

Future Planning Conferences will take place between September and April. Come prepared to talk about your student’s personal and academic strengths, as well as her or his post high school educational goals and thoughts about career plans.

Parents, you are cordially invited and expected to attend this conference. If you are unable to meet during your scheduled time, please contact the Counseling Office in advance to reschedule the conference. If we do not hear from you, your counselor will conduct the conference with your student in your absence. Students would then bring home this important information. We strongly encourage you to discuss these career and educational plans at a time that is convenient for your family.

Conferences are expected to take no more than 50 minutes. We look forward to meeting with you and your student as we continue in this process! If you have questions regarding your Future Planning Conference, please contact your School Counselor at the phone number above.

Thank you!
